Air Guardians: The Game Putting Advocacy & Environmental Justice in the Hands of the Community

All Positives Possible (APP), a community based grassroots nonprofit launches “Air Guardians”, - a bold, innovative immersive game technology simulating real life community-driven advocacy, impacted residents concerns and priorities, environmental health, environmental justice, and pollution sources affecting a historically long-term high risk exposure neighborhood Sereno Village in Vallejo, California.

Using the power of immersive gaming, and community advocacy, is a game changer advocacy tool for positive changes in environmental and public health policy and laws.

Historically disadvantaged-high risk long term exposed neighborhoods like Sereno Village face some of the most severe environmental and health disparities in the state. Surrounded by heavy industrial emitters, active polluters, poor air quality and contaminated groundwater, residents experience asthma rates as high as 99%, cardiovascular disease at 94%, and widespread chronic illnesses including cancer, diabetes, and neurological conditions. These neighborhoods score 85-99% on CalEnviroScreen 4.0 for pollution and health risk, yet some agencies have consistently left residents without meaningful support or solutions.

Air Guardians changes that. Set directly in Vallejo, the immersive game places players inside the real environmental challenges their community faces, equipping them with advocacy skills, air quality monitoring knowledge, and hands-on strategies to engage government agencies. The project extends well beyond the screen. APP pairs the gaming experience with three training sessions, a Toxic Tour of local pollution sites, community listening session, and meeting with responsible agencies via virtual Zoom or in person meetings - all designed to build leadership, deepen environmental health & justice knowledge, supporting participants toward real advocacy. Our goal is at least 100 community members will participate, increasing awareness of pollution exposures and solution based actions needed for a healthier environment.
