Global warming strikes again! 2023 Was the hottest year ever recorded on earth according to the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration).
An alarming rise of CO2 levels has hit the Bay in recent years due to human caused climate change.
The Bay Area, renowned for its environmental consciousness and technological innovation, now grapples with the tangible impacts of these rising CO2 levels on its local community and ecosystem.
Scientists from a University in San Diego California have found an alarming spike in carbon dioxide levels, which is a greenhouse gas. These levels have the potential to reach peaks never seen before in human existence. As a result this has the potential to exacerbate climate change effects. In the Bay Area specifically, this phenomenon poses risks such as altered weather patterns, more frequent heatwaves, and heightened incidents of wildfires which in return increases air pollution. All of which threaten human & environmental health.
The implications of rising CO2 levels extend beyond environmental concerns to encompass public health and economic stability. Elevated CO2 concentrations significantly impacts not only air quality, but also respiratory illnesses and health risks, particularly in vulnerable low income-high risk communities where adequate health care is already a challenge and often unattainable.
It is pertinent that measures be taken to reduce green house gas emissions by using alternative methods to burning fossil fuels for energy & taking adaptation measures to climate change and its impacts, along with taking heed to warnings from the climate science community about these issues.
